The Theater

According to that NY Time article:

"For 13 weekends in a row, box-office receipts have been down compared with a year ago, despite the blockbuster opening of the final "Star Wars" movie"

I’m sure there is a bunch of Hollywood execs right now trying to figure out what it is that they are doing wrong. They will ask questions like “Maybe we need more action” “Maybe we need more sex” “Maybe we need less sex.”

I think they are not even thinking about the real problem. One thing I’m sure they will do is say “Our movies aren’t making enough in ticket sales so lets do more advertising in the movie to make up for it.” And so we are stuck with product placement in movies. Something that drives me insane. Did you see “I Robot”? “Oh wow, my shoes from 2004” “Wow nice shoes.” SERIOUSLY. Do you Hollywood people think that this blatant advertising is increasing the enjoyment at the box office?? Have you ever noticed now that every movie theater runs advertisements before the movie starts? Doesn’t anyone in Hollywood realize that we find that annoying?

If we wanted to watch commercials we would stay at home and watch TV! Now I don't mind Recess Pieces in ET, that wasn't shameless because they served a purpose to the plot. The Shoes in I Robot though, that was so over the hill it was disgusting.

Back when it started there must have been someone that said “if we do this we might see a small drop in sales” and I’m sure at the time they said “Yes, but we will make up for it in the advertising revenue.” Sure sales went down a little, and then you thought “Lets’ put a few more ads in” and the cycle continued until it is where it is today. Hollywood you did it to yourself!

I was watching some movie in the theater a while ago. I can’t even remember it’s name. All I can remember is that during the “Big car chase” The camera spent over half the time zooming in on the car’s emblem. I was so annoyed by it that it ruined that part of the movie for me, and I still remember it to this day.

If you want people to go back to the theater, STOP ANNYOING THEM!. You are sucking the entrainment out while trying to pump advertising in, and then wondering “Why is attendance down?”
