Volcanoes

I was watching 'mega disasters' the other day on the history channel and it was all about the volcano Vesuvius. How it has blown before and caused lots of death and destruction in the past, and now there are way more people that are living around it. If it were to blow today it would kill a lot more people then it did in the past.

The good news is that scientists are pretty good at detecting when a volcano is going to blow so they will likely be able to evacuate the cities before such an event where to happen.

But it got me thinking, why don't we drill holes into volcanoes and vent the steam out so they never explode? The hot gas would easily turn a number of turbines on it's way out and give us some cheap power, and then the heat could be used to boil water and make even more power. Seems like volcanoes are giant power plants that we are letting go to waist.
